Takedown: tell us about something we should not serve
If you hold rights in a work whose full text this site serves, and you believe we should not be serving it, tell us. We will withhold it while we look.
Where to send a notice
Write to takedown@zrxiv.dev. Notices are read and handled by hand, by the people who run this site.
Copyright notices under the DMCA
For notices of claimed copyright infringement under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)), our designated agent is Epistack, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory. Write to the agent at takedown@epistack.org. A notice sent to either address on this page is read by the same people and handled as described below.
What to include
- The work: its DOI, or the address of its page here (zrxiv.dev/source/…) or of the file (zrxiv.dev/blob/…).
- Who you are, and how you are connected to the work: author, publisher, or acting for one.
- What you are asking for, and why: for example, that the licence on the copy we hold does not allow us to serve it.
- How to reach you.
No particular legal form is needed. A notice that names the work is enough for us to start.
How quickly
We aim to acknowledge a notice within 3 business days and, where it concerns full text we serve, to withhold that text within 5 business days while we review it.
What we do
We withhold the work's full text while we review the notice, whatever its licence. The work keeps its metadata page (title, authors, DOI, and a link to where it can be read), and the page says:
We hold a copy of this paper but do not serve it: we received a notice about it, and its full text is withheld while we review it.
The addresses of its files stop serving the bytes and answer HTTP 451 (Unavailable For Legal Reasons), and the JSON API and MCP endpoint report the work as withheld. A withholding is a reviewed change to the service, deployed like any other; the times above allow for that.
It is reversible. If the review finds we may serve the work after all, we restore it and tell you. If not, it stays withheld.
We keep a record of each withholding and each reversal: which work, when, and our own reference for the notice. The date and the reference are not shown on the site, and we do not publish notices or who sent them.
Anything else
If your concern is not about full text we serve (a record's metadata, a chase, or the text of this site), write to takedown@zrxiv.dev anyway; we review those by hand too. For everything else: contact@zrxiv.dev. What we hold and serve is set out in the policy.
